Renting With a New Driving Licence

A driving licence less than 6 months old does not stop you renting a car in Dubai with us. Two things change: full insurance / CDW becomes compulsory instead of optional, and a 25% surcharge applies on top of the rental.
That is the whole rule. It is a licence-age rule, not a driver-age rule — a 30-year-old who passed their UAE test last month is treated the same as a 21-year-old who did.
Separately, the minimum driver age still applies: 21 for economy and mid-range cars, 25 for premium, luxury and sports cars.

Why the surcharge exists: the insurer prices a newly licensed driver differently, and compulsory CDW is what removes your exposure to the AED 1,500 excess if something goes wrong. The 25% is the insurance cost, not a penalty — and it is the same 25%-band CDW every other renter can buy voluntarily.
