Off-Road & Desert Driving in a Rental Car
Off-road, desert driving, drifting and racing are strictly prohibited — 4x4s included. Off-road damage is not insured, so the excess cap does not protect you.
No. Off-road driving, desert driving, drifting and racing are strictly prohibited in every Pindi Boys rental — including the 4x4s. This is in the rental terms you sign, and it is the same on essentially every UAE rental contract.
The reason is insurance, not fussiness. A rental car's cover is written for sealed roads. Take it into the dunes and the insurer is entitled to decline the claim entirely, which means you carry the full repair bill and the recovery cost — not the AED 1,500 excess that would otherwise cap your exposure.
A Nissan Patrol or a Land Cruiser rented from us is a highway and city car. It is a superb one. It is not a dune car, and renting one does not buy permission to take it off the tarmac.
Where you can and cannot drive
| Use | Allowed? | Detail |
|---|---|---|
| Sealed public roads across the UAE | Allowed | Normal use — this is what the car is for. |
| Desert and dune driving | Prohibited | Strictly, on every vehicle. |
| Any off-road / unsealed track | Prohibited | Including graded sand tracks. |
| Drifting | Prohibited | |
| Racing and track use | Prohibited | Including private track days. |
| Damage caused off-road | Not covered by insurance | You carry the full repair and recovery cost, not the excess. |
| Recovery from sand | Customer's responsibility | Recovery charges are passed through at cost. |
What to do instead if you want the desert
- Book a licensed desert-safari operator — they run purpose-prepared vehicles on permitted routes with recovery on hand, and it costs a fraction of a repair bill.
- Use our chauffeur service for the road legs and let the safari operator handle the sand section.
- Rent the 4x4 for what it is genuinely good at here: Hatta, Jebel Jais, the inter-emirate highways, and carrying seven people in comfort.
